Set in the heart of rural England, Rudy finds her relationship with her father being tested. Stuck as a proxy parent to her younger siblings and dealing with a recent loss, she feels increasingly pushed out when her home gets opened up to a paying guest. Through a newfound friendship with a boy from Coventry, she discovers fun, freedom and autonomy, but is it at the sacrifice of unspoken family wounds? RUDY is a poignant insight into love, loss and moving on. The director Shona Auerbach, whose previous work Dear Frankie was showing at the 57th Canne Film Festival and Shona was nominated for BAFTA Award for Outstanding Debut by a British Writer, Director or Producer. RUDY is her first film in 20 years. The soundtrack was composed and performed by Asian recording artist Akira Kosemura whose works have been highly acclaimed on media around the world, including US music media Pitchfork, Australian newspaper THE AGE, French public broadcast FIP, and Canadian public broadcast Ici Musique. The love and sorrow of a family, a family that struggles but progresses little by little, is an excellent work that echoes Kosemura’s piano music, which continues to gently support the family while containing a touch of sadness.
